The AW Youth Foundation board has been actively preparing plans and raising money for a new multi purpose recreational facility at BCCA. To date we have raised $310,000 towards our project. This is on top of the $184,000 already invested. Our goal is to break ground in the fall of 2007 but we have a long road ahead to get this accomplished and we need your help to make it happen.

Did you know that we have a gem just waiting to shine? Centrally located in the heart of our community is the Blue Creek Conservation Area (BCCA). The Blue Creek Conservation Area is significant because it contains one of the few remaining examples of glacial grooves in northern Ohio, carved into fossil-rich Devonian age limestone that was historically quarried on-site. It also contains remnants of oak savanna habitat that, at one time, dominated the Oak Openings region in northwestern Ohio. With 205 acres of the 500 acre park allocated to active recreational development we have the unique opportunity to cooperatively work together to bring northwest Ohio the only active recreational park that will meet Audubon International certification east of the Mississippi.

Did you know– that a variety of organizations and volunteers have collectively contributed over $184,000 towards enhancements at BCCA -North. These improvements include demolition of old buildings on the quarry, re-stoning and grading of parking areas, installation of split rail fencing, electrical service and construction of one youth baseball field. A turf management program has been implemented for the existing soccer fields that included new grass, fertilizer and weed control applications as well as the purchase of aeration equipment and new soccer goals made possible by a grant from the US Soccer Foundation and both youth soccer organizations along with the Village of Whitehouse.
